Dear Parents/Carers,
Health & Safety Update – Week Beginning Monday 23.3.20 – Please Read Carefully
Emergency Child Care Support
Following advice received today from the Local Authority & Welsh Government, commencing Monday 23rd March, we will be offering child care support for families of key workers. These are the people directly involved with the immediate response to the Coronavirus outbreak, so this support is initially for children of ‘blue light’ services, health care, social care and education workers.
This support will be available from 8.30am – 3.30pm daily and this provision is strictly for the children where at least one parent is a key worker and therefore no other adult is available to look after the children. If you are a key worker, but your partner is not, we request you organise other childcare arrangements as the school will not be in a position to accept large numbers of pupils.
It is extremely important to note that if it is at all possible for children to be at home, then they should be.
Please also note that if you require the child care facility:
We are fully aware of the need to ensure that everyone helps in slowing down the spread of the Coronavirus and families are now being instructed to stay at home to reduce social contact. The staff of Oakfield want to assist other key workers (blue light services) to do their jobs at this difficult time. The more children we have in school, the more risk this places on them, their families and indeed the staff who also have families at home.
Let's work together to keep everyone in our school & community safe!
Important
From Monday 23.3.20, if you require the child care support facility, you will need to register your child by signing them in, inform us of your occupation and employer, your child’s name, their year group and the days you would be requiring this service. Please enter the school using the main doors of the KS2 hall where staff will be present to greet you and sign your child in to the child care provision.
Please note that this service can only be accessed on the days when you are working in front line services and remember that this child care service is only used only by parents who provide an essential service.
Stay in Touch
These arrangements will be monitored and adapted as circumstances develop, which, as you will appreciate, is occurring at pace. The guidance issued in this letter is based on the most recent advice from UK Government and from discussions across the Council. Please make sure that you use our Twitter feed, read our Push Notifications (text system) and check the school website for all updates.
I would again like to express my heartfelt thanks to everyone for your support and understanding at this extremely difficult and challenging time.
Yours sincerely,
Mr. D Harris

Dear Parents/Carers,
Health & Safety Update – School Closure
The Welsh Government has today announced that ‘all schools in Wales will close from this Friday’. This means that the school will be open on Friday 20th March, but be closed to all children from Monday 23rd March 2020. I can imagine that this has not been a decision that has been taken lightly.
How are we planning to support the children in the event of a full school closure?
Staff have already prepared extensive ‘home learning packs’ for each child in the school and these packs will be made available to all parents/carers from tomorrow. If your child is not in school at the moment then it is important that a pack is collected by a family member or friend of the family by 2.00pm Friday 20th March 2020.
There will also be a wealth of activities available online and we will be sharing details of how you can access these resources before the end of the week. These resources will be accessible via the school website and you just need to click on the ‘children’ tab and follow the link to ‘home learning’.
https://www.oakfieldprimary.com/home-learning-nursery-to-year-6/
Although you may not have access to the internet at home, please don’t worry as you will be able to find a wide range of material in the home learning packs. It may also be possible for you to work online with friends or family members.
I would also like to assure you that the Local Authority are presently reviewing its provision for additional learning needs, safeguarding and catering procedures in order to support families when the school is closed to children.
Please continue to help us by emphasising the following actions:
Look at the ‘e-bug’ link for some useful tips for staying safe and hygienic.

The school will continue to update you for the foreseeable future via the school website, push notifications (our text system) and Tweets in order to give you as much information as possible regarding this rapidly changing situation.

Afternoon everyone,
The school is aware of the recent report on Wales Online, which gives information from the Welsh Government, that ‘all schools in Wales will be closed from Friday’. As soon as this is confirmed by the Local Authority, we will update the school community.
Many thanks to everyone for your understanding during this difficult time.
Dear Parents/Carers,
Health & Safety Update
In these rapidly changing times I would like to update you again in relation to Covid-19, including the actions that we are taking in school, and the actions you can take as parents and carers. The Council is continuing to closely monitor guidance from the Welsh Government/NHS Wales and the school will continue to keep you updated with any further developments, especially those linked to our school.
There is a great deal of speculation about potential school closures, but this is a decision that will be taken by the Council. This will not be the decision of the school, unless staffing levels drop. At this moment in time, however, the school is running as normal with children enjoying their learning in class.
How are we planning to support the children in the event of a partial or full school closure?
Staff have already prepared extensive ‘home learning packs’ for each child in the school. In the event of a school closure, these packs will be made available to all parents/carers. If your child is not in school when these packs are shared, then the school will advise everyone on how they can collect their learning packs.
There will also be a wealth of activities available online and we will be sharing details of how you can access these resources at an appropriate time. These resources will be accessible via the school website and you just need to click on the ‘children’ tab and follow the link to ‘home learning’.

Although you may not have access to the internet at home, you will be able to find a wide range of material in the home learning packs. It may also be possible for you to work online with friends or family members.
I would also like to assure you that the Local Authority are presently reviewing its safeguarding and catering procedures in order to support families during times of school closure.
Advice to parents about reporting absence:
If anyone has a concern about their child, please follow the link below:
https://gov.wales/guidance-educational-settings-about-covid-19
This guidance is very clear about the current circumstances when a student should attend school or self-isolate. Staff, young people and children should stay at home if they are unwell with a new, continuous cough or a high temperature to avoid spreading infection to others. Otherwise they should attend education or work as normal.
Please continue to help us by emphasising the following actions which all children need to take:
https://campaignresources.phe.gov.uk/schools
The school will continue to update you for the foreseeable future in order to give you as much information as possible regarding this rapidly changing situation. We have already made some changes to daily routines and we will continually review all aspects of school life to ensure that we operate as safely as possible. This is our primary consideration.
I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to everyone for your support and understanding at this extremely difficult and challenging time.
Yours sincerely,

Dear Parents/Carers,
Health & Safety Update
In light of the current COVID-19 situation, the school has taken the decision to review non-essential school events to limit risk to the school community including those who may be more vulnerable.
Parents’ Evenings Postponed
31.03.20 & 02.04.20 (including reception classes)
Although our Parents Evenings’ are an integral part of the school calendar we feel that it is sensible to postpone the Spring Term parents’ evenings until later in the school year. We will, of course, re-schedule an appropriate time in the summer term.
New Parent’s Meeting for Nursery Children Postponed
10am on Monday 30.03.20
This also means that our new nursery parents meeting scheduled for 10.00am, Monday 30th March, will also be postponed and school based staff will write to all families to advice of a new meeting time in due course.
Afterschool Clubs Proceeding
This week (week beginning 16.03.20) will be the final week for all extra-curricular clubs and the school will advise families on when clubs will start again in the summer term.
Storey Arms Proceeding pending further discussion
The school is still in consultation with the Local Authority and staff at Storey Arms on whether or not the trip will proceed (1.4.20-3.4.20). If, for any reason, the trip is postponed then we will again be looking a suitable time for it to be re-arranged.
Other Trips Postponed
The cinema attendance award trip for Y5 and will be postponed. This will be re-arranged at an appropriate time in the Summer Term. Any other trips during the period leading into the Easter break will also be postponed until further notice.
Mother’s Day Assembly Cancelled
Due to the vulnerable nature of many of our youngest children, our assembly will be cancelled & instead the children will bring home their cards and gifts for Mothering Sunday.
We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience these changes may have, but we would like to reassure you that these decisions are being made with the best intentions of everyone who is part of our school community. Please see the reverse for how we would like all families to stay in touch and please keep us informed of reasons for absence.
Many thanks once again for your ongoing support and understanding in this matter.
Yours sincerely,
Mr. D Harris
