Before the Easter break, we introduced our new topic and gave the children the opportunity to plan all of our lessons for the topic.
Our topic is A Whole New World. This gives the opportunity for the children to be very creative as they design and develop their own new countries that they ‘discovered’ after a stormy night at sea! They have decided that they want to design flags, maps, cities and a lot of other things. They want to create sculptures of famous landmarks and show off their literacy and numeracy skills with all of their brilliant ideas.
We are also lucky enough to be receiving some lesson from Chris from Upbeat. He will be giving the children to create, write and develop their own singles using professional equipment.
We will continue to work on various areas in Maths lessons such as shape, time and measure as well as basic Maths skills. Don't forget to check your Active Learn account and keep up to date with homework set.
Literacy lessons will be focussing on improving the use of varied sentences and extended vocabulary. Reading a variety of books will really help achieve this. Spelling words will continue to be given out each Monday. Please ensure your child spends some time practising them at home. It is so important!
Our science focus will be on Sound. The children will be experimenting with sound by creating their own musical instruments, as they asked to do! Hopefully we can create a mighty orchestra!
Keep checking Twitter and our website for photos and further information about our amazing learning!

Welcome to Year 5!
The Year 5 class teachers are Mr Morgan, Mrs Harris and Mrs Thomas.
This term we will be reading and interpreting a variety of texts, and producing extended writing as part of our Success for All lessons. These include narrative writing, poetry and writing reviews.
In Mathematics it is important to be clear on our multiplication fact families, we are revising all of our families in the hope we can continue to become better mathematicians. Please continue to work with your child at home, every little helps! Homework will continue to be provided most weeks on Active Learn based on the topic being developed.
Our topic this term is THE GREAT WAR. We are very excited about exploring the history of World War 1 and will be starting off our topic with a great trip to Cardiff Castle. We hope that this will get everyone excited about the term ahead and also learn lots about what life was like during the time.
In Science our topic will be Recycling and Water Life. We will be carryng out investigations and will be asking the children to make predictions, discuss results and help them make informed decisions about how we can help the world to be more sustainable!! We are an Eco School after all!!
PE will take place on a Weds afternoon for both classes.
Please can you ensure your child has PE kit to take part in lessons safely. Please ensure your child brings a note from home if they are unable to take part for any reason.
