This term we will be reading and interpreting a variety of texts including poetry, reviews and narratives as well as producing our own extended writing as part of our literacy lessons. During ‘Writing Week’ within our classes we will be writing our own story, based upon some of the exciting things we will have been learning about. Home reading books will continue to be changed weekly on a Wednesday and Thursday. Spellings continue to be tested on a Friday and new ones set the same day.
In Mathematics it is important to be clear on our multiplication fact families, we are learning up to our 12 times table this term depending on the set you are in. Please practise your times-tables; these will be a great help for you when multiplying AND dividing in your Maths lessons. Homework is provided weekly on Active Learn based on the topic being developed. We are continuing to work on ‘Big Maths’ so ask your children what they do on their whiteboards!
In Science this term we are learning all about Light and Electricity! We will be investigating where light comes from and how it moves around. We will continue to test our predictive and planning skills but also focus closely on explaining how things work and why. Later in the summer term we will be looking at electricity and how this can be made. We will then investigate how this travels and how we can power different things using a variety of circuits. Get ready to do some re-wiring of your houses with your new electricians!
In addition we are learning about Roald Dahl with a particular focus on Fantastic Mr Fox. It would be great if you could choose one of his books for bedtime or Bank Holiday reading!
During ‘Fantastic Mr Fox,’ we will be learning many important Geography, Science and creative skills, as well as applying Literacy and Numeracy skills that we learn in our morning sessions. As part of our Religious Studies, we will be learning about the Christian Church and the religion of Islam. Hopefully this term we will also be visiting Green meadow Farm, where we will be meeting and learning about lots of different animals. Hopefully washing some pigs too!
Towards the end of the Summer Term, we also have Sports Day to prepare and look forward to, and we will be singing and practising for our ‘Celebration Afternoon’. What a fun term of learning we have to look forward to!
Good luck and welcome back!
