Welcome to Year 5!
The year 5 class teachers are Mr Hiscock, Mrs Harris and Mrs Thomas.
We also receive extra support from Mrs Price and Mrs Harris.
They will be taught once a week by Miss Spriggs.
This term we will be reading and interpreting a variety of texts, and producing extended writing as part of our Success for All lessons. These include narrative, poetry and instructional writing.
In Mathematics it is important to be clear on our multiplication fact families, we are revising all of our families in the hope we can continue to become better mathematicians. Please continue to work with your child at home, every little helps! Homework will continue to be provided most weeks based on the topic being developed. We are continuing to work on ‘Big Maths’ so ask your child(ren) what they do on their whiteboards.
This term your child will undertake 3 tests: Reading, Maths Reasoning and Maths Procedural. Please do not hesitate to ask any questions in order to help your child succeed. If you would like to see examples to have a clear understand of what your children will be doing please go onto the website.
Our topic this term will be based upon Castles, we will be looking at such things as where these are located, what different types there are and the materials used. We will also be using the children’s ideas to lead the topic as much as possible this term.
In Science our topic will be Space, we will be exploring other planets, visiting distant galaxies and going where no man/woman has gone before. Our investigations will focus on how we can measure our success and how reliable our results are.
Towards the end of the Summer Term, we also have Sports Day to prepare and look forward to, and we will be singing and practising for our ‘Celebration Afternoon’.
Good luck and welcome back!
