Dear Parents/carers
Re. Pupils joining Eastern High September 2020
I hope this finds you all well. Normally, your child’s transition to secondary school will be a worrying time for you (especially if this is your first), and now in the current circumstances, I imagine things feel a lot more confusing.
Even although the school is closed at the moment, please be assured we are still working to make sure that arrangements for your children to start with us are as smooth as possible in September and will keep you informed every step of the way.
Last month we sent forms to your home addresses for completion and return by 2 April 2020. However, as the events have unfolded during the last two weeks, we realise it is not possible to meet this return date and we are all having to develop different ways of working and communicating.
The information we collect on these forms will enable us to communicate with you effectively, and will help us understand your child’s needs and helps us place them in suitable classes and learning families and so it is important that these are returned.
With that in mind, if you have the facilities at home - please scan or photograph your completed forms and email them to info@easternhigh.org.uk for attention of Mrs S Simson.
If that is not possible but you have the ability to reach a post box, please do send by post.
If neither of the above are possible, please await for further instruction after the Easter holidays. We are currently looking into alternative methods that may include completing forms electronically.
If you have not received the forms, and need them re-issued, please email info@easternhigh.org.uk for the attention of Mrs S Simson.
I do hope we are still able to do our normal transition activities in June, but if that is not possible, be rest assured we will organise alternative transition activities when we know roughly the date we will reopen.
In the meantime, if you have any questions please do email or write to us and we will endeavour to answer your queries as soon as possible.
Take care and kind regards
Armando Di-Finizio

Childcare:
Whilst the Hub provision is up and running at Bryn Hafod Primary School from tomorrow,
https://www.oakfieldprimary.com/news/detail/important-update-childcare-from-monday-30th-march-/
there will still be a very small number of staff at Oakfield who will be responding to emails and phone calls. This will be a reduced service running from 9am to 12pm (midday) to ensure that you can stay in touch with staff:
Phone: 02920 799396
Childcare from Monday 30th March 2020
From next week, the Council will move to operating a sustainable childcare provision in a small number of centralised locations across the city, in order to reduce the number of schools opening to provide childcare for key workers. These locations will provide childcare for pupils from designated local ‘feeder’ schools. The feeder school for pupils in Oakfield Primary School is:
Bryn Hafod Primary School,
Blagdon Close,
Llanrumney,
Cardiff,
CF3 4HF
Please note that keyworkers that are critical to the COVID-19 response are advised that childcare provision should only be used if there is no safe, alternative form of childcare available.
Any new requests for childcare provision, where parents and carers in keyworker categories have no other safe alternative, must apply using the online form by accessing the following link
www.cardiff.gov.uk/keyworkerchildcare
Support for Pre-school children can be made using the Council’s Family Gateway. Once registered, parents will be contacted by the provisions team to arrange admission, at the earliest possible opportunity, from Tuesday 31st March 2020.
Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee a place.

Key Worker Information Update
Key worker parents can only request school based child care when it is not possible to care for the children at home. This is the guidance from the government.
This means that if it is at all possible for children to be at home, then they should be.
“Many parents working in these critical sectors may be able to ensure their child is kept at home. Every child who can be safely cared for at home should be.”
Please can you also help our community further by ensuring our children are not mixing socially in a way which can continue to spread the virus. We are also asking everyone to observe the same social distancing principles as adults.
If we are able to deliver the urgent childcare requested by critical key workers the following categories will be used:
Families where both parents are front line NHS key workers i.e. doctors and nurses
Where a sole parent is a frontline NHS worker i.e. doctors and nurses
Please help us in making our community as safe as it can possibly be!
