Dear Parent/Carer,
A member of staff has tested positive for COVID-19 and has now begun a period of self-isolation.
We are awaiting further guidance from Public Health Wales, however in the meantime I would like to assure you that we have comprehensive measures in place to minimise the number of pupils and staff at the school who are required to self-isolate.
This morning, class 2H have been asked to remain at home and I will be communicating with those parents directly as soon as I receive further information.
At this present time, no-one else is required to self-isolate.
Strict measures remain in place to ensure the health and safety of everyone at the school, and I appreciate you continued support with this.
If you have any concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Yours sincerely,
Mr. D Harris
Headteacher
Dear Parents and Carers,
We are shortly going to be holding Parent Governor elections to fill one vacancy on our Governing Body. I wanted to write to everyone first to invite you to consider whether it is something that you may wish to become involved with. There is a commitment to attend a number of meetings each year to help shape how the school is run and managed, but don’t worry as there are numerous training courses and professional development opportunities available to all governors. In addition, all present members of the governing body will offer you any support you need.
Are you someone who cares about our children getting the best start in life and are you someone who wants to understand more about how schools function? If the answer is yes, then you are well qualified to become a parent governor of Oakfield Primary School!
You can also find out more via this link:
If you have any questions please either contact myself, or Mr. Harris (Headteacher), on 02920 799396 for an informal chat.
Best wishes and thank you,
Mrs. Sian Burgess - Hunt
Chair of Governors

Breakfast Club Update
Unfortunately we have been informed that breakfast club will not be able to resume until Monday 28th September due to the unavailability of suitable food items.
We are extremely sorry for the disruption that we know this will cause, but this is out of the school’s control. Please refer to our newsletters for further updates. Apologies again.
Lunch
The Local Authority (LA) have informed us that school meals will resume the week beginning Monday 21st September.
For the weeks beginning 21st September and 28th September 2020 there will be a choice of sandwiches (tuna, cheese or ham), with drink and fruit etc. Lunches will be served as a ‘grab bag’. The school will review the situation again shortly and we hope to be able to offer a wider choice of options for the two weeks leading into half term, and beyond.
Dinners may be ordered in the same way as usual and paid for in advance using parent pay. We will send further updates on menu choices home when they are received.
All children may also continue to bring in their own packed lunch from home.
Breakfast Club
Breakfast club will start the week beginning Monday 21st September. Again, due to current restrictions, there will be a limited choice, for example, juice, breakfast cereal bar and fruit. This will be served as a ‘grab bag’.
Children who require a breakfast will need to go straight to their class and breakfast will be served in relaxed surroundings within the children’s own contact group. Breakfast will be served from 8.30am due to staffing restrictions.
At present, breakfast club will be available for children in Years 1 to Year 6 only.
Snack
There will be no changes to snack arrangements at this time. All children will still need to bring with them healthy fruit snack and refillable bottle of water.
Please do not send in crisps, chocolate/sweets or fizzy drinks for snack.
Evening Update - Oakfield Primary School - 11th September 2020
The Welsh Government has today announced a series of new measures in response to an increase in the number of positive Covid-19 cases. From Monday 14th September, people in Wales must wear face masks in shops and other indoor public spaces. Indoor meetings of more than six from an extended household will be illegal, though the rule will not apply to children under 11. Up to 30 people from different homes can still meet outside.
Whilst the rate of increase in the number of new cases has stabilised after a recent increase, preparations are in place to respond quickly to any significant viral spread in the community. We are not yet at the stage where any new restrictions need to be introduced in Cardiff, but it is possible that local action may become necessary if infection rates continue to climb. This may result in a partial lockdown of parts of the city and this is something we all wish to avoid.
Within Cardiff, the majority of positive tests are currently being found among people aged under 40 and this is being driven by:
This tells us that most people are being infected by people they already know – friends, family members and workmates, not random strangers.
Clearly, the easing of lockdown has played a part in rising cases. We are, however, more concerned about people forgetting or ignoring the advice and guidelines. If we are to avoid a Caerphilly-type situation in Cardiff, then it’s important that everyone understands the dangers and the risks.
We are entering what may become a very significant couple of weeks and we must do our best to slow the spread of the virus and to try to halt community transmission within the city. Any changes to our opening and closing times/routines will need to take these updates into consideration to help us all stay safe.
Let’s do our best for our community and follow the guidelines. Please take care and look after each other.

Dear Parents/Carers,
Use of Face Coverings in schools
In view of the revised advice on face coverings in schools recently issued by the World Health Organisation and Welsh Government, please find attached the updated guidance from Cardiff Council on the wearing of face coverings in schools by staff and pupils in secondary school settings.
These updated recommendations align the position for school staff in Oakfield Primary School.
The guidance is that face coverings are strongly recommended for staff to use in areas of the school where social distance cannot be maintained.
Please note that we are maintaining each year group in a contact group including at break and lunch times, minimising the interaction between pupils outside of their year group,
Please also refer to the Autumn Term newsletter for further guidance on our return to school procedures.
Thank you again to everyone. We can’t wait to see the children!
Take care.
