Our topic for the first term in year 5 is Vile Victorians. We will be looking at this vital period of British history with pupil voice playing a big role in what we will cover. We also have an exciting trip planned to give the children a feel of what being a Victorian child was like!
We will also be looking at World War 1 as we approach Remembrance Sunday, in preparation for our assembly.
We will continue to work on various areas in Maths lessons such as number and place value, as well as other basic Maths skills. Don't forget to check your Active Learn account and keep up to date with homework set.
Literacy lessons will be focussing on improving the use of varied sentences and extended vocabulary. Reading a variety of books will really help achieve this. Spelling words will continue to be given out each Friday. Please ensure your child spends some time practising them at home. It is so important!
Our science focus will be on materials. The children will be experimenting and testing different materials and their properties.
PE will be every Tuesday and it is vital that kit is brought in, especially suitable footwear as we will be working both outside and inside. Your child will take part in PE lessons, unless we have been notified by parents or guardians.
