Following yesterday's Welsh Government announcement, please read the latest guidance (link below).

We will shortly be sharing plans on how we will begin to open our doors for our learners.
Welsh Government Update
Today, Kirsty Williams has announced that schools will reopen on Monday 29th June 2020. Exact details are not yet known, but it is suggested that all children will have the opportunity to ‘Check In, Catch Up, Prepare for the summer and September.’
At the moment, the suggestion is that the summer term will be extended by one week and the autumn half-term holiday increased to two weeks.
There will be much smaller classes to allow time with teachers and classmates. This time in school will include a range of suitable classroom experiences.
We are expecting further information from the Welsh Government once they publish guidance to support us. The key aim will be to use the time in school to help our children, families and staff prepare mentally, emotionally and practically for ‘the new normal’ in September.
As soon as the school has any further information, this will be communicated with everyone in the school community. In the meantime, please can all parents/carers complete the survey using the following link:
https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/N7DKBNB
It will only take 5 minutes to complete and this will help us understand your thoughts as we plan for a return to school.
Take great care,
The Oakfield Staffing Team

Free School Meal Update
Families with children eligible for Free School Meals should now have received supermarket vouchers covering them for weeks commencing 6th, 13th, 20th and 27th of April.
From Monday 4th May families with children eligible for Free School Meals will now be able to buy food using funds deposited directly into their bank account, whilst schools are closed due to COVID-19. This will be achieved using ‘Parent Pay’ and it will provide parents with more flexibility on where they can shop.
Parents or carers with children who are eligible for Free School Meals should receive a letter during this week which will provide information on how to receive their fortnightly payment. For those who are not yet using Parent Pay, there will be a step by step guide on how to register and contact details should they require further assistance.
If families do not choose to use this new system then the voucher scheme which is currently being delivered will continue to run alongside this new arrangement. Please can you share this information amongst your own networks.

20th April 2020
Dear Parents/Carers,
An extremely warm welcome to our summer term 2020. We hope that you all managed some time to relax over the Easter break especially during these extremely surreal and challenging times. As usual, we will continue to communicate with everyone in the usual manner. The school will continue to send out texts and continue with its Tweets. Please also remember to stay in touch by using our school website where you will find lots of information to help with a range of things.
Home Learning
Class teachers have prepared work for the weeks ahead. A new set of learning tasks will be available each Monday morning and these can be found on the website by accessing this link
https://www.oakfieldprimary.com/home-learning-nursery-to-year-6/
If this is a problem for anyone, we are more than happy to provide you with a home learning pack. Please can you email learningathome@oakfieldprm.cardiff.sch.uk if you would like a hard copy of the work.
Everyone in the school would also like to thank the children who have not let the current situation stop their enthusiasm for learning. Please can you continue to support your children with the home learning activities and let us know if you need any further advice, support or even more work! We would love to continue to hear from parents/carers to see how well everyone is doing. Don’t forget to also have a go at our weekly ‘Get Caught’ challenges.
School Meals
Before the Easter break the school was advised that the local authority had moved to a voucher scheme for children in receipt of free school meals. There may be changes to this plan and we will make sure that we update you with any news as we receive it.
Staying in Touch
We will also be continuing to contact families for a catch up phone call. If you feel that your child would benefit from any further calls, please just email us, or give the school a call and tell us what you need. We will try to help in any way we can.
Thank you again for your support and understanding.
Stay safe,
The Oakfield Team
We hope that you all had an enjoyable Easter break.
Our home learning packs have been updated by staff and this week's work will be on the website by the end of the day (link below). https://www.oakfieldprimary.com/home-learning-nursery-to-year-6/
If you have any questions about your child’s work or you require a paper copy of the work then please email us at learningathome@oakfieldprm.cardiff.sch.uk. Your child’s class teacher will then be able to respond and help in any way they can. If you do email us then please can you state clearly your child’s name and class.
Please can you share this message with your contacts to make sure everyone is informed.
Thank you
