Dear Parents, Carers, Pupils and Visitors,

It is my absolute pleasure to welcome you to Oakfield Primary School.

As Acting Headteacher, I feel incredibly privileged to lead our wonderful school and to work alongside our children, families, staff, governors and wider community. I am delighted to be taking on the role while our Headteacher, Mr Harris, undertakes a year-long secondment with the Local Authority, and I am excited about all that we can achieve together during the year ahead.

Our school motto, “Opportunity to Achieve,” sits at the heart of everything we do. We believe that every child deserves the opportunity to succeed, to discover their strengths and talents, and to become the very best version of themselves.

As a Rights Respecting School, we are committed to championing the rights of every child. Article 28 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child recognises every child’s right to an education, and at Oakfield we are passionate about ensuring that all of our children have access to high-quality learning experiences within a safe, happy, inclusive and nurturing environment.

Our website offers just a glimpse of the vibrant, caring and ambitious community that makes Oakfield such a special place. We want every child who walks through our doors to feel valued, respected and that they truly belong. We know that children learn best when they feel happy, confident and safe, and our dedicated team works tirelessly to create an environment in which every learner can flourish.

Guided by the principles of the Curriculum for Wales, we place the development of the whole child at the heart of everything we do. We support our pupils to become:

• ambitious, capable learners, ready to learn throughout their lives;
• enterprising, creative contributors, ready to play a full part in life and work;
• ethical, informed citizens, ready to be citizens of Wales and the world; and
• healthy, confident individuals, ready to lead fulfilling lives as valued members of society.

Our curriculum is designed to inspire curiosity, creativity and a genuine love of learning. Alongside high-quality classroom learning, we provide children across all year groups with a wide range of engaging opportunities and first-hand experiences. These experiences help to bring learning to life, broaden horizons and create memories that children can carry with them throughout their time at Oakfield and beyond.

We have high expectations for every child, both academically and personally. We are incredibly proud of our pupils and the determination, kindness, respect and ambition they demonstrate each day. We want our children to recognise their achievements, celebrate the successes of others and understand that effort, perseverance and a willingness to learn are all important parts of success.

Pupil voice is extremely important to us. We want our children to know that their ideas and opinions matter and that they can play an active role in shaping their school. By listening to our pupils and giving them meaningful opportunities to contribute, we help them develop confidence, responsibility and an understanding of their place within our school and wider community.

The strong relationships we have with our families are equally important. Education works best when school and home work together, and we greatly value the support, involvement and feedback of our parents and carers. Our active PTA, committed Governing Body and wider community work in partnership with us to enrich the opportunities and experiences available to our children.

Whether a child joins us in Nursery or Reception, transfers to Oakfield from another school, or has been part of our community for many years, we want every child and family to feel warmly welcomed. We understand how important those first experiences of a new school can be, and our staff are committed to helping children settle quickly, build positive relationships and develop a strong sense of belonging.

Communication is a key part of our partnership with families. We encourage parents and carers to stay up to date with school life through our website, regular newsletters and other school communication and media channels. We also celebrate the many achievements, experiences and special moments that make life at Oakfield so rewarding.

Ultimately, everything we do is centred around our children. Our aim is that every pupil leaves Oakfield as a happy, confident, respectful and well-rounded individual, equipped with the knowledge, skills, experiences and aspirations they need for the next stage of their journey.

I am immensely proud to lead Oakfield Primary School. It is a school where well-being, respect, ambition and opportunity come together and where we are determined to give every child the opportunity to achieve.
