Croeso i Flwyddyn Chwech!
The Year 6 class teachers are Mr Morgan and Mrs Doyle.
We also receive extra support from Miss Evered and Mrs Rathore.
Mr Beaven and Mrs Keenan will be taking our PPA sessions.
This term we will be reading and interpreting a variety of texts, and producing extended writing as part of our Success for All lessons. We are focusing on writing explanations, recounts and playscripts. Remember, both classes have lots of books for you to borrow and read at home, and you’re welcome to do so whenever you like! You will also receive new spelling words every week. Please make sure these are learnt!
In Mathematics we continue to develop number, shape and data handling skills. Homework is provided most weeks online through Active Learn. We are continuing to work on ‘Big Maths’ to develop our core-number skills, and be able to apply them across the context.
In Science our topic will be ‘The Human Body!” We will continue to develop our investigative skills through a range of experiments that encourage scientific thinking.
Our context this term is “World War 2”. The children have already decided on aspects of World War 2 they’d like to learn more about and we will be working on those as part of our learning; these include the blitz, evacuation, rationing, propaganda and entertainment of the time. We will be reading “Goodnight Mr Tom” and “Carrie’s War” in class and taking part in a range of activities to develop our literacy, numeracy and digital skills while learning about this interesting topic.
We will be having PE lessons every Thursday afternoon, and it is very important that the children bring suitable clothing (trainers, shorts/tracksuits) to change into for the lesson. All children will participate in PE lessons unless they have a note from a parent/guardian saying otherwise.
Being in year 6, many of the younger children throughout the school will be looking up to the oldest children. Therefore, we have a big responsibility to set a good example, which includes displaying good manners, excellent co-operation and teamwork, wearing school uniform and always giving 100%.
Good luck and enjoy your first term in Year 6!
