Croeso i Flwyddyn Pump!
Welcome to Year 5!
The Year 5 class teachers are Mr Hiscock, Mrs Harris and Mrs Thomas.
We also receive extra support from Miss Owen and Mrs McCraig.
This term we will be reading and interpreting a variety of texts, and producing extended writing as part of our Success for All lessons. These include narrative writing, poetry and writing reviews.
In Mathematics it is important to be clear on our multiplication fact families, we are revising all of our families in the hope we can continue to become better mathematicians. Please continue to work with your child at home, every little helps! Homework will continue to be provided most weeks on Active Learn based on the topic being developed. We are continuing to work on ‘Big Maths’ so ask your child(ren) what they do on their whiteboards every day.
Our topic this term will be based upon Castles, we will be looking at such things as where these are located, what different types there are and the materials used to make them. We will also be using the children’s ideas to lead the topic as much as possible.
We are planning to later in the term visit one of our local castles and explore first-hand what it’s like to live, defend and survive in such an imposing building.
In Science our topic will be Space, we will be exploring other planets, visiting distant galaxies and going where no man/woman has gone before! Our investigations will focus on how we can measure our success and how reliable our results are.
Towards the end of the Summer Term, we also have Sports Day to prepare and look forward to, and we will be singing and practicing for our ‘Celebration Afternoon’.
Please can you ensure your child has PE kit to take part in lessons safely. Now the weather is a little warmer it is important to bring comfortable clothing such as shorts, t-shirt and trainers (with a jumper, just in case).
Thank you 5TH for helping the Eco Council to sort the recycling bags. 18 bags collected in total!
