Welcome to Year 5!
This term we will be reading and intpreting a variety of texts, and producing extended writing as part of our Success for All lessons.
In Mathematics it is important to be clear on our multiplication fact families, we are learning up to our 12 times table this term and revising all previous ones. Please ask your child what they are learning. Homework is provided most weeks based on the topic being developed. We are continuing to work on ‘Big Maths’ so ask your children what they do on their whiteboards.
This year we will be continuing with our maths scheme that was so successful last year, with this comes an online world for each child to develop in anyway they wish. Please log on to ‘ActiveLearn’ with your child to access many fun maths activities to continue their learning at home. Their log in and password should be the same as last year. If not, then please see your child’s maths teacher.
We are also learning about India through themes such as:
During our topic on India we will be focussing on an area called Kesharpur. We will use this to allow the children to make comparisons to how they live here in Wales. Any information the children can find out in advance on this area will be helpful.
In Science our topic will be ‘Life Cycles’, we will be developing our ability to understand living organisms and of course using our scientists hats to carry out further investigations.
This term Year 5 will be going on their residential trip to Storey Arms! We are all very excited and can not wait to get to grips with such activities as rock climbing, gorge walking and caving! We hope it snows! Please remember to return any outstanding forms ASAP to class teachers.
