This term we will be reading and interpreting a variety of texts, and producing extended writing as part of our Literacy lessons. We will be writing persuasive letters, non-chronological reports and hopefully delving into some auto-biographies! Home reading books will continue to be changed weekly on a Wednesday and Thursday
In Mathematics it is important to be clear on our multiplication fact families. This term we are learning up to our 7 and 8 times-tables, including counting in a variety of place values, for example: 0.7s, 7s, 70s, 700s, 7000s – it’s ‘nothing new!’ When practising at home please use the inverse operation so children are also clear on division and how it relates to multiplication. We are continuing to work on our ‘Big Maths’ so ask your child what they do on their whiteboards in class. Homework is provided most weeks on Active Learn, based on the topic being developed as well as paper homework. If your child is still unsure of their Active Learn login details, please see their class teacher.
Our topic this term is based upon where we live - ‘Me and My World!’ Through this context we will be learning geographical themes such as where we live, what is around us and past and present Wales. We would like you to start talking to as many people as you can about their experiences in Wales, and how these have changed over the years. What was it like when they were growing up? Have they seen many changes around their homes or the local landscape? We will also be studying lots of interesting maps so see if you can get started by spotting your house on Google Maps!
After half term, our topic about Wales will also lead into Welsh week where we will be preparing for the Eisteddfod to celebrate St David’s Day and tasting traditional Welsh foods!
In Science we will be learning all about the Human Body and Fantastic Forces! These topics will help the children to develop their ability to plan and carry out fair tests as well as furthering our understanding of biology and physics.
PE lessons will continue to take place every Tuesday where we will be focusing on exploring, creating and performing a gymnastics routine. Please ensure that your child has appropriate clothing for indoor PE.
Good luck and welcome back!
