The year 4 class teachers are Mrs. Keenan, Mrs Ball and Miss Kemp.
We also receive extra support from Mrs Price.
This term we will be reading and interpreting a variety of texts including poetry, reviews and narratives as well as producing our own extended writing as part of our Success for All lessons. During ‘Writing Week’ within our classes we will be writing our own story. Why don’t you have a go at home practising the skills we have learnt so far?
In Mathematics it is important to be clear on our multiplication fact families, we are learning up to our 12 times table this term depending on the set you are in. Please ask your child what they are learning. Practise makes perfect! Please practise your times-tables; these will be a great help for you when multiplying AND dividing in your Maths lessons. Homework is provided weekly on Active Learn based on the topic being developed as well as paper homework. We are continuing to work on ‘Big Maths’ so ask your children what they do on their whiteboards.
In Science this term we are learning all about Forces and Light/ Electricity where we will be looking at different types of forces, natural light sources and investigating circuits. We will also be receiving a visit from a GE representative who will give us the opportunity to design and make a rocket!
In addition we are learning about Roald Dahl with a particular focus on Fantastic Mr Fox. It would be great if you could choose one of his books for bedtime reading!
During ‘Fantastic Mr Fox,’ we will be learning many important Geography, Science and creative skills, as well as applying Literacy and Numeracy skills that we learn in SfA and Maths. As part of our Religious Studies, we will be learning about the Christian Church and the religion of Islam this term.
Towards the end of the Summer Term, we also have Sports Day to prepare and look forward to, and we will be singing and practising for our ‘Celebration Afternoon’. What a fun term of learning we have to look forward to!
Pob Lwc for your final term in Blwyddyn Pedwar!
We have been working with Tom, from Cardiff City Foundation.
We had great fun working together to design and play our own team games!

In Mathematics it is important to be clear on our multiplication fact families, we are learning our 7, 8 and 9 times tables this term as well as re-capping those previously learnt. Please ask your child what they are learning. Homework is provided every week based on the topic being developed. Maths homework can be accessed via www.activelearnprimary.co.uk. Your child will have their own individual username and password which they will be reminded of during the next few weeks. We are continuing to work on ‘Big Maths’ so ask your children what they do on their whiteboards in order to help them at home.
During the Autumn Term we will be learning about The Tudors as part of our History topic. We will be investigating themes such as:
These themes have been chosen by the children.
During our topic we will be applying not just our Literacy skills but also our Maths skills by reading, creating and interpreting graphs and tables. In addition we will be developing our ICT skills by using the iPads to help us learn! Later in the term, we hope to visit Llancaiach Fawr where we will step back in time and have the chance to try on Tudor clothing and take a deeper dive into what Tudor life was like!
This year, the children are lucky enough to be participating in P.E lessons with the Cardiff City Foundation. This will take place every Tuesday afternoon for five weeks from 19th September – 24th October. Therefore your child will need to bring an outdoor PE kit for this. In order to help the children remember their kit, we suggest sending kit in on a Monday and taking it home on a Tuesday after school. After half term, P.E day will return to a Wednesday afternoon. In addition to this, we will be having African Drum lessons every Tuesday after half term which will give the children a chance to indulge in their creative sides!
Good luck and welcome back!
